Pioneers were those brave souls who ventured forth into the unknown, forging their own path along the way. In the process, they blazed a trail for those who followed.
During the mid-19th century, when the United States was still very young and largely confined to the eastern half of North America, pioneers took part in the Westward Expansion, journeying into the wild western frontiers to seek the promise of a better life.
